I have made some changes, tidied up a little, and generally reorganized the house. Hope it is an improvement. Nothing major. Another book soon. Not quite as soon as I hoped. It is a couple of chapters away from a final draft.
I have to say, a trilogy is much more complicated than I thought when I made the decision to write three books in a series rather than just one. After all what is the difference between writing three stand alone novels and a trilogy, I thought. Ha ha. Well, I can now say after many rewrites of book two and a rewrite of book one that we are talking about the difference between three Mercuries in the case of the stand alones, and three Nibirus when thinking about the trilogy. I mean there is just no comparison. It is the Moon compared to the Sun. And really, the Moon is supposed to be quite large.
A trilogy needs an over arching plot, even if only a strand among several. Readers want continuity, and they don't like to see characters they have followed in the first book disappear without a trace or explanation of a kind in book 2 and 3. Or for that matter, characters that apparently have split personalities. They want plot development and world building that doesn't implode with the inconsistencies of a story that is planned on the fly. I didn't want to be lost by the time it came to winding up book 2 and plunging into book 3, and left with the choice of winging it or stopping at the second book. What kind of trilogy has 2 books? So, here I am with book 2 almost completed, and book 3 already on the way to a first draft.
2016 was a heck of a year, wasn't it? Looking forward to 2017.
